Search Engine Spiders

When a search engine robot visits your Web page, it is important to understand a few things if you are hoping to get your Web page indexed. Search Engine Robots are simply software programs that come out to your Web page, capture certain data and then return that data to the search engine from where it came. A search engine robot does not see a world of pages or a world of Web sites. A search engine sees the its world made up only of URLs or (Uniform Resource Locators.)

Spiders enter and leave websites through links, which act as portals throughout the net. That's why it's important to have lots of incoming links to your website to encourage spider activity. If you provide lots of new content for spiders to feed on, they will remember to visit your site more frequently. Spiders only see text on the web pages, therefore pictures and Flash programmes are invisible to them. You can add alt tags to your pictures which are written descriptions behind them, enabling spiders to understand your images.

The spider visits one web page from the left to the right, so we recommender you to put your important keywords in the left side and leave the navigation menu to the right if it is very long. Generally, a web developer will put the navigation bar on the header of page, it's OK, but try to put some important keywords or one paragraph just after the navigation bar, because the spider regards this place as the most important part of the page.

You should ensure that a visitor to your site is able to access all the important web pages in 3 clicks or less. Remember that search engine spiders often don't take deep links into consideration. So, be careful not to bury your important web pages or else they will not be given due importance by the search engine spiders. Many experts believe that it works the best when your significant web pages are located just one or two levels deep.

The search engine spider/crawler then goes to the top left column and works down it, then the next column and so on. It regards anything in H1 tags as being important, so the first text it should come across should be the headline, which should be the keyword, of the webpage in H1 tags and in bold and capital text. There are many other SEO tips but these are the main four. It will find the navigation column after the man text column. This is very important for the search engine spider.
